Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Whew.  Today is Saturday and I found out I was pregnant only a few days ago, when I decided to take a test on a Wednesday night and got an oh-so-faint second pink line.  Jeff and I wanted to wait until 10-12 weeks to tell people, but neither one of us could keep it in - he told a co-worker/friend basically as soon as he got into work the next day, and I spilled the beans to two people who happened to mention pregnancy and realized I was acting strangely.  I am a terrible liar, it must have been written all over my face.  After that we realized that damage control was pretty much impossible, so I broke the news to the rest of my co-workers last night at happy hour, and when I got home we made some phone calls.  We're still trying to keep it quiet, but I'm not so sure Jeff's mom is going to be able to keep it under wraps from the rest of the family, so we'll deal with that if we need to.  I told my mom and my sister, and tomorrow we're having lunch with my aunt, uncle, and 4 year-old cousin and we'll share the news with them in person.

The OTHER big news we have is that we're going to be moving in June.  Jeff is definitely graduating with a PhD, and I'm up-in-the-air; my boss seems convinced that I'll be able to get my PhD, but we'll see what my committee says.  I'll at least be able to get my M.S., and that's really all I need.  I have become pretty disenchanted with the research rat race, unlike my unbelievably enthusiastic husband, and I'm willing to be flexible.  All I need is a job I don't hate that gives me enough money to comfortably raise a family, so I'll take whatever I can get!  We're currently considering Seattle, the Raliegh-Durham area of NC, and San Diego.  Who knows where we'll wind up...I'm excited and a little bit nervous about it, and I've gotta admit that it makes the whole baby situation a little nerve-wracking, since we need to find jobs, a house, a daycare, and a doctor wherever we go. But I am confident that this is the best move for us, since we definitely don't want to raise a baby and Baltimore, and this is the best opportunity for us to be on the same schedule career-wise.

Today we did a lot of pregnancy-related stuff. We went to Barnes & Noble and bought two baby books (to supplement the one I bought a while ago, before we even started trying to have a baby!).  Then we bought a bunch of healthy stuff for me to eat.  I am actually a pretty 'healthy' eater, but I definitely eat mostly meat and grains, so I needed to hit more food groups on that pyramid!  It's really cute how excited Jeff gets about this stuff, and I do really love fruits and veggies...I just don't often take the time to buy/prepare them.  So here's hoping that I keep it up!
