Last Friday I had my first ultrasound, where we confirmed that there is just one baby in there and Jeff and I got to see the heartbeat (so fast!). Seeing the heartbeat was amazing; I hadn't expected it to have such a profound effect on me, but it really brought home that there is something ALIVE and GROWING inside me! In the second photo, we think the baby looks like a swan. The tech confirmed that I'm right about where I thought I was, and gave us a due date of 10/14. I'm sure that Jeff would want me to point out that that's what he guessed the due date would be.
After seeing the heartbeat, we decided that it was fine to tell pretty much everyone. We aren't posting an announcement on Facebook or anything just yet, but we gave our relatives the go-ahead to tell people, I told a lot of people at work, and we ordered announcements to send to our more far-flung family. Here they are:
My last piece of news is that my mom sent me a 'care package' with some adorable baby clothes and some maternity clothes for me. There was a pack of onesies with cute little animals on them, a set of monkey outfits (complete with a little monkey hat) and duck outfits (with duck hat), plus some blankets and several really cute booties with the little grippy bottoms like slipper socks on them. Adorable! She also did a pretty good job with the maternity clothes - everything fit and was very pretty and flattering, and it's all warmer-weather clothes, which I know I will need. The few things I bought before,when Motherhood Maternity was doing BOGO free, were lighter sweaters, and they won't hold me for very much longer since the seasons are changing (and I'm having all sorts of hot flashes!). Luckily they look really cute and non-maternity, so I'm able to wear them now despite not having a big bump, and I can wear them when I'm not pregnant. I took some pictures of the baby clothes with my phone, but I am too impatient to wait for photobucket to upload right now.
