We went to Jeff's parent's house for Father's Day this past weekend, and it was a nice opportunity to see everyone (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) on his side of the family before we head off to Seattle. We already knew that Jeff's mom bought us a bunch of baby stuff, but there was also sort of a micro-shower within the Father's Day get-together. We got a ton of really adorable baby clothes, and now we have a giant pile of baby stuff in the corner of our bedroom. It makes it all seem so real! I took pictures so I can keep track of who gave us what (so in the future we can take pictures of her in the outfits and send them to the people who sent them). So here are a bunch of pictures!
| Here is all of it! |
| From the Hansens (aunt, uncle, cousins) - you can't see the adorable stuffed lamb and blanket |
| From Matt (Jeff's older brother) and his girlfriend Aline - this swimsuit and coverup are my favorite things so far! |
| Also from Matt and Aline - comes with a cute matching headband! |
| From Matt and Aline - love the ruffles on the butt! |
| This set and the two above are all Calvin Klein; we will have one fashionable baby! |
| I'm too lazy to rotate it, but of course Matt would give us a Yankees tee! |
| These are from Jeff's Nan and Pop - they got us a bunch of adorable coordinating pink and white outfits, I'm showing the ones with the cutest phrases (this one says 'mommy loves me') |
| This one says 'Somebunny loves me' and the matching pants have a bunny on the butt. Too cute! |
| These tiny socks made me cry. I'm such a sap. |
| Geri and Gary got us this activity gym |
| and this cool rocker that transitions from newborn to toddler! |
| This is called a 'sleep sheep', you attach it to the outside of the bed and it plays soothing sounds to help the baby sleep. Let's hope it works! |
| This is a cool swing/bouncer that plays music |
They also got us some smaller items AND our stroller/car seat combo (and accessories) but that was too big to fit in our car and the box isn't very pretty :) This is what it looks like though:
Plus a rain cover, organizer, and child tray. Pretty swanky!
I am really overwhelmed by everyone's generosity, and it's hard to imagine that there will be a tiny baby occupying these things in just four months!
On Saturday my mom and sister went to look at rentals in Seattle for us, and we now have it narrowed down to three places: a townhouse, a house, and an apartment. We are leaning toward the apartment because it seems to be the best combination. The townhouse is nice and the least expensive, but a bit small and has no yard, while the house is larger and has a big yard. However, we would be responsible for maintaining the yard and any issues with the house, AND it's the most expensive. The apartment is a nice open floor plan, with plenty of space, and it is on some really nice grounds with a lot of awesome amenities (pool, gym, tennis and raquetball courts) so it would be easy to get some fresh air and play outside. We are applying to all three - the process for the townhouse and condo is already underway, but we have a little more flexibility with the apartments. I will probably call them today though, I'm so antsy to get this done!
I also need to e-mail my prospective employers and see if they are making any progress with listing my potential job...it seems like both of them are very interested in hiring me, but it's taking forever and that's nerve-wracking. I was also really nervous about finding a daycare, since we are on three VERY long waiting lists, but I talked to another daycare that only books two months out. They require a site visit first, but I was assured that if we visit in August, we will definitely have a spot by December. That is a HUGE relief. Of course, if I don't get a job, we won't be needing daycare....Aaaaack!
Jeff submits his thesis on Friday and I'm hoping to have mine finished by then as well. My boss is working on my paper for submission and promises that as soon as that's in, I can have a committee meeting, so hopefully I will know soon if I'm graduating before August. Today Jeff's best friend Joey is staying with us - he is flying to Austin and leaving his car here, so he will spend the night tonight and probably on the day he gets back. I was cleaning the house like a madwoman, and later I'm going to bake a cake for him because it was just his birthday. Whew! I think that's enough for one blog :)
