I've been mostly working from home, though two weeks ago I did spend a whole week in lab. Tomorrow I have to go back, and it's going to be a bunch of long days. Joy.
Benefits of working from home:
-Home-cooked meals for lunch
-Not having to go out in the wretched heat/humidity
-Easy access to water (sounds silly, but at work I have to go down three floors to use the water cooler in the office, which is locked after 4 pm, sometimes earlier)
-Not having to endure the 30+ minute train ride and 5-7 block walk to work
-No interns, interruptions, or distractions (which are easily every few minutes at work)
-My couch is way more comfortable than my desk chair
-I can wear pajamas
-Ability to get some chores done during the day (dishes, laundry)
-Can sleep an extra hour and still start working earlier than I would in lab
Benefits of working at lab:
.....crickets.
It wouldn't be quite so bad if it wasn't summer and I wasn't pregnant, but as it is I am miserable just thinking about it. Two weeks ago my intern was having issues showing up on time (he 'slept through his alarm' once), and he forgot he was going to be on vacation all last week. He assures me that he can be early every day this week, but we will see. I am going to be so pissed if he doesn't come in early tomorrow, because we have a nine-hour day planned and I can't do anything without him since he is supposed to be learning every step of the process. Oh and did I mention he's my boss's son? So I have to be nice to him. Grr.
