Bring on the parties!

I have never, ever been a summer person.  I hate hot weather, and it's ridiculously humid in Maryland (soooo much worse than when I lived in Texas).  The only time I can stand it is if I'm at the beach.  Which, considering how far we are from the beach and how little time we get off work, doesn't happen much.

HowEVER, one thing I do like about summer is that there always seems to be a lot going on.  Cookouts, dinner parties, whatever, we are always much more busy in the summer and I love it.  Granted, I am generally a total homebody and I'm not a fan of hanging out in groups of strangers, but I really am a people person and I love getting the chance to see people that I either don't see often, or usually see in a more sucky setting (like work).  Since we are leaving in three weeks (OMG OMG heart palpitations), I am trying to squeeze in as much quality time with my MD peeps as possible.  We have had a ton of events lately and we have three coming up: a good-bye lunch for a semi-co-worker (she works down the hall), a lab picnic, and a good-bye dinner/party for a good friend.  So even though I feel miserable (and let's face it, I look pretty beat too) in the heat, I am glad that other people are going to the trouble to put these things together.  If I wasn't so lazy, I would probably host something myself.  But alas, I am.

The other nice thing about all these shindigs is the variety of food I get to eat.  I like to cook and I like what I cook, but it's mostly the same old stuff so it's nice to get to experience something else, with little effort on my part.  Most recently I had some delicious Italian food (at the Father's Day/bridal shower extravaganza in NJ), kick-ass ribs (at my uncle's for the 4th of July) and a variety of oh-so-tasty Indian food at a friend's dinner party.  Let's keep the yummy streak going!  This weekend we are going to NJ to drop off our cat with her new owner (YAY!) and we'll visit Jeff's family too.  I am hoping this means I get to have another cheesesteak - as long as I don't find out I failed my gestational diabetes test, I guess - and we are also going to Kona Grill with Jeff's parents.  Even though it's a chain, I freaking love that place.  Jeff gets to eat sushi, and I can eat..not sushi.  All sorts of delicious not-sushi options!  We actually just went there while our friend Joey was visiting, but who cares.  This time I will make sure to save room for dessert :)
