Yesterday the Rock 'n Play I ordered came, and I put that together. I was itching to put some more stuff together, so I also put together the cradle/swing that my in-laws gave us. The R'nP took all of five minutes, but the swing was definitely a big undertaking. It took me at least 30 minutes and actually required tools! Here are the finished products:
Note that I chose a more appropriate stand-in for the baby this time. The R'nP is folded up and sitting in the baby's closet, but I left the swing out in the living room because it's so huge. The seat pops out for use alone, but it's not foldable. That's ok, I think it will have a permanent home there, and when I came out to the kitchen this morning it made me smile. It looks like a baby lives here now!
After this, I am itching to get my hands on the baby furniture I ordered. I can't wait to put it together and have the baby's room look a little less bare - all that's in there right now is a recliner and the carseat and stroller (which I'm pretty sure won't be staying there full-time). I must say, I'm pretty impressed by my handiwork. I also unpacked the last boxes yesterday, clothes that couldn't be unpacked sooner because we didn't have anywhere to put them. Between the unpacking, finally getting the couch, and taking out all of the cardboard boxes that had accumulated, this apartment finally looks lived-in; I don't think you'd guess we just moved here two weeks ago (today!).
My mom's birthday is coming up (very soon, actually) and we're getting together with her, her husband, my sister, and my sister's boyfriend to have dinner in a couple of weeks to celebrate. They are coming up a little early to check out the apartment, so I'm glad it's shaping up (though it will take all of five seconds to show them, so I don't know why they're giving themselves so much time). That weekend is also the weekend of our two-year wedding anniversary, which is on a Monday this year. Hopefully we'll be able to do a nice dinner somewhere on Sunday, there are a few places in Seattle we've been dying to try ever since we came up before my mom's wedding last August - we did some research and picked an awesome place (Canlis), but it was sad we could only do one, so I would love to try one of the others now. I'm pretty sure that will be a lot less likely after the baby comes!
And now I am going to end on a completely random note: I despise the current trend of HUGE flowers on hats/headbands for little girls. I know that a lot of people like to use something like this so that it's obvious their baby is a girl, but I just don't care if people can't tell that early on. I looked like I was a boy until I finally got some hair, at three years old. I was checking out the deals on Zulilly today and found what may possibly be the worst one I've ever seen:
Seriously, that thing is bigger than the kid's head. And looking at this picture reminds me of another thing I don't understand: so many times, people do infant photos of naked/nearly naked babies with these ginormous flowers. If you want to make it clear that your baby is a girl, you could always, I don't know, put some girly clothes on her?! I don't mind the nearly naked pictures, I have seen several that are downright adorable, but add one of these oversized bows and I just want to weep. Let's hope this trend stops soon.
