Apparently it’s my new thing to write blogs in Word and post
them later. This will no longer be an
issue after Thursday, though, when we finally get internet! If we don’t…I will cut a B. I am sick of people not delivering things
when promised (ahem, ABF, ahem).
Yesterday (Saturday) we had our first baby class. I know Jeff wasn’t thrilled to be there (he
was a complete cranky pants that morning) but I’m glad we went. Our instructor is a bit too hippy-dippy for
me, and I felt like we wasted way too much time doing a ‘guided meditation’
exercise and fake contractions (seriously?) but I learned a lot and I like most
of the other people in our class. It
turns out, there are a ton of scientists in there, and a few people that work at
Fred Hutchinson, where Jeff now works.
One couple even told us where there is guaranteed free parking near his
job – score! The guy in the parking
office had told us about one place, and that there are ‘usually’ spaces, but
that wasn’t good enough to have Jeff drive all the way to work only to not be
able to find a space. We went and scoped
it out today and it seems legit, plus there’s a nearby lot that’s only $6 per
day, if worse comes to worse (the parking office guy told us the cheapest lot
is $16 per day). So that was a pretty
big relief, I know Jeff was really stressed about it, and even though I really
didn’t mind dropping him off and picking him up temporarily, I hate when he’s
upset.
After the baby class we had an awesome lunch on Lake Union,
across from Fred Hutch – best edamame I’ve ever had, and one of the best
burgers. I’m drooling a little just
thinking about it. The waitresses are
kind of skanky and it feels like you’re at the club (even in the middle of the
day) but the food was worth putting up with that. We also picked up some stuff from one of
Jeff’s new lab mates, who is moving.
We’d planned on getting a large rug (for the living room) and a filing
cabinet, but we also snagged two smaller rugs and two closet storage things
(the fabric things you hang on the closet rod and there’s a bunch of ‘shelves’
in them) for a grand total of $48 – considering that’s about how much the 5x7
rugs at Target are, I thought that was a pretty awesome score.
Our neighbors watch their TV super loud (even at 8 am…WTF?),
so we are giving them a few more days and hoping that once we have stuff in our
apartment, the fan on at night, etc, it won’t be quite so bad. Otherwise, I’m going over there and nicely
asking them to turn it down, I just can’t handle it! Also, ABF finally updated the tracking info
and our cubes ARE in Seattle, so they should be delivered tomorrow as
(re-)scheduled. We had been tracking
them constantly, they were supposed to be delivered at 3 a.m. Saturday and the
last time we checked (6 p.m. today, Sunday) it still wasn’t updated.
Tomorrow is a busy day, because I have an OB appointment
(Jeff is coming, they’re doing an ultrasound), then our apartment walk-through
is at 1, ABF is supposed to deliver the cubes from 12-4 (suuuuuure…..), and I
have an interview at 2. I’m sort of
nervous, even though Michelle was really easy to talk to on the phone. I really, really hope she offers me a
job. If she doesn’t, I will start
applying for post-docs; not my ideal job (and the pay isn’t great, and usually
neither are the benefits, thankfully Jeff is working for a great place!) but it
would be something. It would be SUCH a
relief to know I’m going to be bringing in some income, even if it’s not until
after the baby comes. I would prefer to
start right away and make some money until October, but we’ll survive if we
have to wait until December, and it would at least bring peace of mind if I
have something lined up. So fingers
crossed!
